Lady Tribs cruise to eighth straight win
MCC defeats Genesee, 99-61.
BATAVIA, New York - Lanay Rodney scored 30 points, and a swarming MCC defense forced 29 turnovers en route to a 99-61 victory over Genesee Community College in a Western New York Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup Wednesday evening.
Rodney was 12-for-16 from the floor and hit three 3-pointers for the Tribunes (3-0 WNYAC, 10-1 overall), who won their eighth straight game. Monroe connected on 14 3-pointers as a team, with four apiece coming from Torrie Cash and Erica Abitante.
The Tribunes led by 11 after the first quarter before outscoring the Cougars 26-9 in the second to take a 55-27 lead at the break. MCC forced 20 Genesee turnovers over the first 20 minutes.
GCC did finish shooting 51 percent from the field on the game, but the miscues were the difference. Monroe scored 39 points off the 29 Cougar turnovers. In contrast, five MCC mistakes led to just six points for Genesee.
Cash finished with a double-double for MCC, totaling 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five steals. Sierra Green scored 21, while Abitante had 14 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Green, Rodney, and Taliyah Brisco had three steals apiece. Ja'nier Cooper dished out a game-high seven assists.
