#11 Women's Soccer Draws with #14 Laramie CCC
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Following their impressive win over Jackson College (Michigan) nearly a week before, the Monroe CC Women's Soccer Program faced a challenge that would set the tone for the rest of their season when they battled #14 nationally ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles. Defense proved to be reliable for both teams as the game resulted in a 0-0 draw, despite the best efforts of the likes of Sam Cipolla (Rochester, NY) who followed her two-goal performance vs Jackson with unsuccessful four shots on goal, as well as the likes of Kayla Baca (Spencerport, NY) and Manou Van Gils (Tilburg, Netherlands) who both out up multiple shots on goal, against what turned out to be a stout LCCC back line and a world-class performance by Golden Eagles' keeper Rebecca Sargent, who recorded an unprecedented 14 saves.
To their credit, the Lady Tribs defense held up their end of the bargain, only allowing eight shots on goal, all saved by Tribs keeper Clare Boesel (Palmyra, NY). The likes of Mallory Johnson (Rochester, NY) and Chyene Whitcomb (Rochester, NY) were masterful in their ability to contain LCCC strikers on the perimeter. At the same time, the seemingly always reliable Kennady Billman (Belleville, NY) continues to be the security blanket for this Tribunes squad, halting any attack that breaks for the opposition.
In their toughest test to date, the Lady Tribs answered the call of physicality and mental intensity required for such an opponent. While one well-placed shot could have been the difference between three points instead of one, coach Sal Galvano and company should be pleased with the direction of this team and its ability to play with some of the best in the country.
