Tribunes fall in quarters at OCC Tourney

Monroe finishes 2-3 at the Cara Bryant Memorial.

SYRACUSE, NY - The MCC volleyball team finished 2-3 at the 2013 Cara Byrant Memorial Tournament hosted by Onondaga Community College.

The Tribunes split four matches in pool play before falling to Herkimer CCC in the quarterfinals. Monroe is 17-10 on the season.

The tournament kicked off Friday evening and MCC started by sweeping SUNY Delhi in two sets. Gabby Morey led the way with seven kills while Jessica Jenkins had 16 assists and six digs. Krista Maltzahn chipped in with four kills, three digs, and two blocks.

Monroe then fell to Jefferson in three sets. Morey again had seven kills, while Danielle LeBlanc added five and Claudia Villanueva four.

Pool play continued Saturday, and the Tribunes once again started strong by sweeping Cayuga. Villanueva had a strong match with seven kills and Jenkins tallied 21 assists and eight digs. Morey had five kills and six digs.

The team wrapped up pool play with a tough 2-1 defeat at the hands of Northampton. Jenkins had 25 assists, nine digs, and five aces, and LeBlanc and Villanueva had 10 and nine digs, respectively.

MCC then fell to Herkimer in straight sets in the quarterfinals. Morey had eight kills and nine digs and LeBlanc added 10 more digs.
